Nintendo, More Like Nintendon't Change

A few hours ago, like me, you watched the Nintendo Switch Presentation. And...like me, you went in with an open mind hoping that this was Nintendo's chance to redeem themselves and wow us with their newest console the Nintendo Switch. If you have already pre-ordered it or are trying to figure out where you are going to come up with $299.99 on March 3rd(which is the price and the release date by the way) you are more than welcome to stop reading. I won't be mad. But if you never saw the presentation or you were not impressed with it, please, I implore you, press on.

Ok, now at first the presentation was going well, they were showing you the console, the controllers, "the HDMI cable", and all the components. Not going to lie, the console itself looks sexy, very cool how you can "Switch" to a hand held. The Joy-Con controller itself gives you to opportunity to play with a friend right out of the box. Yes 2 controllers! Sort of...the controller included comes apart and boom local multiplayer. Not to mention choice of black or neon red and blue or black...

...OOOOHH PRETTY!

Nintendo seems to be very focused on a "party game". Now I consider myself a pretty big gamer, but I like to sit on the couch and play an epic campaign or have a 6 hour Overwatch session online, but taking my console over a friends house to play at a party, no thank you! Seriously, how often are you going to go to a friends house and play? I'm speaking if you are an adult with a job and a life, because that is the obvious demographic they are going for.

Now lets get into the games announced, shall we? For starters these games don't actually come with the Switch but they are called 1 2 Switch and Arms. The first one 1 2 Switch is a 2-player party game which includes Quick Draw, a western themed quick draw game. Also includes Table Tennis, Samurai Training, and Milk...whatever that is. Meh. It's essentially the Switch's version of WiiSports. Now Arms, it is a wacky boxing game that is heavy on long distance boxing. I guess it's cool.

Seriously! Arms is the best name for this game you guys could of come up with??

Moving on, I don't need another console that plays Skyrim. Love Bethesda games but this just seems a little forced. That game to be released in the fall. The original release date was November 11, 2011, yes 5+ years ago.

Sega!!! Apparently Sega is calibrating with Nintendo, buuuut they had no video to show us with anything they are planning. Kind of a waste if you ask me.

How about Mario?! I have to admit, when I saw an open world Mario Odyssey I got pretty excited, even Mario's new hat was cool, but after watching the rest of the video I got confused. I got confused when I saw Mario in the "real world" with "real people" in New York City, I thought to myself, wow this is also really forced. I was wondering if Mario Odyssey would be released with the console, nope! You're going to have to wait till the holidays of 2017...ugh.

Then came EA Sports' FIFA, Xenoblade 2, and Dragon Quest was talked about and what do you know, no official release date for any of those games.

Then came in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind to save it all. It definitely saved it, right? Well, from what I saw Zelda is gorgeous, thrilling, vibrant, and fresh. I was completely excited about watching the Zelda gameplay and cut scenes, it looks like the Zelda game we have all been waiting for and it's going to be released the same day the the Nintendo Switch will be released. It just about sold me, I was there, I was thinking this plan could work for Nintendo. Then they said, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind will be available on March 3rd for the Switch and the Wii U. Whaaaa??? So you're telling me I could just buy the new Zelda game for the Wii U for roughly $60 and not spend, essentially, $360 to play just Zelda on the toilet? Although that does sound amazing, but not worth $360.

To close the #NintendoSwitchPresentation as exciting as it was before it started, you could obviously tell that Nintendo is still behind and are certainly still not ready to compete with Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. It makes me sad since Nintendo is so engraved in me in my childhood. It also makes me really believe now this is the beginning of the end for Nintendo. Very sad.

Thanks for reading!

Mr. Miyamoto, how do you think it went?

Thanks for your honesty!
